The Department is an integral component of the academic ecosystem of the IIIT- Allahabad. The department conducts postgraduate and research programs in Bioinformatics. The courses that are conducted as such are offered for students aspiring, post graduate (2-year program) and PhD program. The department also contributes to various courses in physics and mathematics running in other departments of the institute.

The Department of Applied Sciences offers postgraduate (M. Tech.) and doctoral (PhD) programs. The institute intends to contribute to society through these highly qualified students, who aim to specialize in frontier areas of research and development. It is now the focal point of the institute and our stress is on collaborative and interdisciplinary work.

M.Tech.

The Institute offers challenging academic programs, aimed for integrated-undergraduate and postgraduate programs, which encourage students not only to excel in course work but also carry out research in a chosen area of specialization. The M.Tech program is a research-oriented, normally lasting two years and culminates in a thesis defense.

Ph.D.

The Institute offers this program with emphasis on the dissertation work. To ensure the necessary depth and breadth in the area chosen for research, students are required to do course work and clear the qualifiers. Typically students plan their Ph.D. study based on their background and in consultation with their research adviser. Upon clearing the requirements and the acceptance of their research proposal, the student works on the thesis, and its successful defense leads to the degree.

The department was established in the year 2006 with the aims of providing leadership in the field of Electronics & Communication Engineering and pioneering interdisciplinary research with Information Technology. We strive to train and empower our students who will make the world a better place by using power of engineering principles, techniques and systems.

Several initiatives have been taken to establish state of the art research laboratories in the area of VLSI design and technology, MEMS and sensors, embedded systems, wireless and optical communication, cognitive radios, MIMO technologies, RF and microwave engineering.

Besides, being a center of excellence in Information Technology, the institute provides greater exposure of core areas of IT to the students of ECE department at IIITA. Students are encouraged to undertake project in a group starting from Vth semester and advance research project in VIIIth semester under the able guidance of faculties in these emerging areas. Opportunity for innovation and incubation is provided at this stage to successful projects by the institute for industrial standards.

The oldest department of the IIIT-A came into existence in year 1999 with launch of B Tech programme.

The objectives of the programmes offered by the Department of Information Technology are to equip students with state of art knowledge and skill in Information Technology and to produce engineers with outstanding ability, to create future leaders of IT industry and profession, to add to the existing intellectual pool of young minds to meet the growing demands of the nation in Information Technology and to lay a foundation for lifelong learning ability and a capacity for adaptation in the ever changing world

The programmes aim to achive these objectives by moulding young talents as engineers who can recognize and solve problems in different technical and social domains. The main emphasis of the programmes is to instill inquisitive thinking and curiosity with a sense of service to the nation and society at large; and with a capacity to recognize the need for a change and drive the change to make the world a better place to live.

The Department offers B. Tech. (IT) in two specialized areas mainly Information Technology and Business Informatics,

M. Tech. (IT) specialization subjects are Cyber Law and Information Security, Human Computer Interaction, Intelligent Systems, Robotics, Software Engineering and Wireless Communication Engineering The department also offer Ph.D. (IT) in subjects like Soft computing, Artificial Intelligence,Robotics, Computer Vision, Remote Sensing, Image Processing, Multimedia, Graphics & Animation, Data Mining, Wireless and Mobile Networks, Service Oriented Architecture, Software Engineering and Theoretical Computer Science, Distributed and High Performance Computing, Cryptography, Computer Forensic, Biometrics & Pattern Recognition, Information System Audit, Cyber Crimes and Security Architecture & Standards etc are thrust area of the IT Department.

The Department of Management Studies came into existence in 2004 and was constituted with the philosophy of running and managing the programmes with a focus on management & technology.
