IT Resource Advisories
IT Resources - Operational Advisories
1. Given our total pooled storage available the following storage quota applies:
a. Faculty – 200 GB
b. Students – 50 GB
c. Officers & Staff – 100 GB
d. Project Staff & Visiting Faculty: 50 GB (Term limited).
Please be advised that this storage quota is spread across the mailbox & Drive storage. The Drive storage is also used for archiving Google meeting data as well (recorded video – if enabled). So – please be judicious in utilizing your allocated storage and periodically purge or offload your legacy data.
2. Web/Internet Bandwidth: Considering the prevalence of streaming and other data intensive services and the total bandwidth available with the institute, the following increased weekly data cap shall apply:
a. Students: 20GB.
b. Temporary Staff: 40GB.
Users found breaching this weekly cap may have their internet usage temporarily suspended.
3. PLEASE ensure that you sign out from every computer system. This is especially pertinent when using shared or public systems (lecture halls, labs etc.). Additionally – DO NOT save your passwords on any such system. If you have accidentally saved your credentials – please clear them from the respective browsers. It is also recommended that all users reset their mailbox and LDAP account passwords periodically.
4. Every member of the institution is requested to please share any observed instance of network breach or other event(s) of network security gaps immediately to the IT services team and/or the office of CISO for timely intervention and deployment of corrective and/or containment measures.
5. For Students & Scholars: Your first point of contact for any non-academic issue is the Dean - Student Affairs and the Head of the department for any academic issue. Please do not email indiscriminately to the Director or the entire faculty/officers/staff/student mailing list(s).
6. For Students & Scholars: Proper discipline must be maintained while making use of the computer labs. Removal of any item such as (but not limited to) keyboards, monitors, network cables, etc. is STRICTLY prohibited and anyone found carrying these items without prior written consent from a competent authority will face disciplinary action. Food items and liquids of any kind are not allowed in teaching/instruction labs. Students found carrying such items may have their lab privileges revoked (apart from the offending items being confiscated) for an amount of time deemed sufficient by the faculty in-charge of the lab. Playing games or indulging in any activity that may be deemed non-academic in nature should be avoided and may be punishable.
7. It is once again re-iterated: PLEASE do not use the “reply-all” option when responding to your emails. It created an extremely undesirable email clutter.
We shall keep updating this list of advisory points periodically.
